Chinese New Year is also known as the Spring Festival, a Chinese New Year Celebration is similar to Christmas or Thanksgiving in the Chinese community. The celebration lasts between 7 and 15 days. Families would gather together from all over the world to celebrate both tradition and happiness. Red and Gold decorations adorn homes, malls and even along the streets. Large meals are prepared for families, guests and relatives to enjoy together. Red envelopes filled with goodies (money, sweets etc) are a sign of wealth. These red envelopes are shared to wish people a good fortune, prosperity, and longevity. Chinese New Year is celebrated in countries and territories with large Chinese populations and in Chinatown all over the world. Each country and area has their own unique traditions and customs when celebrating this festive event.
In 2019, we will celebrate the year of the “Pig.” In traditional Chinese culture, if you don’t have a pig at home, these won’t be a “home.” At the same time, from the puff of the pig, it can be seen that the pig can be filled with wealth, and thus the pig is considered to be a symbol of “RICHNESS.” Join us to celebrate the upcoming wonderful new year!
There will be stage performance at both malls; activity booths including couplet writing, lantern riddles, and handcrafts will be on the Concourse Level at Chinatown Centre.
